General Appearance:
A thick stubble covers a strong square jaw following up to link with short, unkempt dark brown hair. Two brown eyes sit either side of a slightly crooked nose, which sits above fulsome lips. His skin is leathery and weathered, displaying that the man is well travelled. Full combat armour covers a well built, athletic build. His armour is scratched and awash with various bumps and indents, clearly well used.
Biography:
Dex Williams was born and raised in the undercity of Coruscant. The harsh and unforgiving slums meant his childhood was far from picturesque. He was born in sector H-12, or as it was more commonly known Scuthdown Pits. His mother, Jenna Williams, did her best to raise Dex through his early years but was plagued by an addiction to Thrust Head. Dex would always come second to it. Thol Bakad, his father was an affiliate of the one of the many local crime syndicates and had been the source of to many unwanted children to know about Dex. It wasn't even until his late teens that Dex would even meet his father. His predicament meant that he quickly learnt how to survive by himself and spent most of his time out on streets with the other local kids.
When he was 6 his mother fell pregnant and gave birth to two girls, Marei & Beth. Although they were not his blood-sisters, he still cared deeply for them. He took it upon himself to give them something that he had never had and shield them from the bleak reality of the slums, protecting their innocence as best he could. However, to do so he needed to find work. Unfortunately, with no education and no skill set to speak of he had few options outside of the slums. This led him to the local syndicate who were always on the look out for new spice runners. Dex spent several years running spice from one sector to another, spending his pay on food, clothing and school supplies for his sisters. At 19 he reluctantly accepted an offer of work from Thol Bakad as a syndicate enforcer. The pay was significantly better but the work itself weighed heavily on his conscience. Two years passed before he found out who Thol Bakad really was and by that time they had developed a good working relationship. Dex chose to keep the information to himself, not wanting to risk his only source of income until his sisters, both now aged 16, were independent of him. He continued working for his father for several more years, developing a reputation for brutality throughout the slums. However, things would not last. It was Dex's 24th Birthday celebrations at one of the local cantina's when his father met Marei. She had grown into an attractive women and Bakad saw opportunity for exploitation. Without Dex's knowledge he forced Marei into degrading work as a dancer at the syndicate cantina. Both his sisters had moved away, taking advantage of the education that Dex had made available to them. As a result it was 4 months before Dex stumbled across his broken sister. Marei had followed in her mothers footsteps and, whether it was consensual or not, had become addicted to spice. Dex's world fell apart. He took his sister away, leaving her with Beth. In a haze of fury he then confronted his father. The confrontation escalated into a fight, Dex killed both his father and several other well-respected syndicate members.
Now a wanted man he left his sisters with what money he had and fled to join the Republic Army.
Dex passed through training with ease but did not stand out enough to be separate from the rank and file. He was posted to the 13th Light Infantry, or the 'Coruscant Light' as it was more commonly known. He was immediately shipped out to join his company on Balmorra where he earnt his nickname 'Idol'. He spent 12 years fighting in the Coruscant Light serving and fighting on planets throughout the Republic. With his company he felt more at home a million light years away than he had ever felt whilst living on Coruscant. He was amongst men who had shared similar backgrounds, most like him originating from the underbelly of Coruscant.
His years of experience left him rank of sergeant and almost changed him completely. Whilst serving he learnt a strong sense of loyalty, not only to the Republic, but to fellow troopers like himself. Discipline is now a key part of his life and, even when retired from the army, he still holds himself to their standards.
However, his service for the Republic did not leave him with just commendable attributes. Although he will never admit it he is haunted by his past and the men he's killed. Even so his morales have faded. When once he would hesitate to even just intimidate another man, he now would have no problem in killing to achieve his objective.
'Idol'
Dex ended up with his nickname 'Idol' during his service on Balmorra.
A separatist movement had been responsible for a string of kidnaps and executions, plaguing the local economy as several companies shut down. Finally, the movement took a popular and influential businessmen hostage. By chance Dex's platoon stumbled across the hostage whilst patrolling a series of derelict storage units and a fierce fire fight broke out. Outnumbered and out-gunned the troopers were forced to retreat. However, as the separatists attempted to relocate the hostage to a new location, a grenade thrown by Dex unintentionally killed the hostage and several separatists. When the platoon returned to base they were confronted by the division General. The platoon expected the worse and Dex took responsibility. However, Dex found himself being congratulated by the General for preventing the hostage from being used as a bargaining tool by the separatists. The over-enthusiastic General even went as far as saying that he 'envisioned the perfect trooper' and 'would be an idol back home'. From then on forth he was nicknamed 'Idol'.
