While I didn't follow the trial at all, because that's a completely fruitless endeavor, I have a pre-law friend who explained it to me that the defense did a good job of arguing an alternate set of events that would explain the entire thing.

The thing to keep in mind is that when you are on the jury, a guilty verdict has to come without any reasonable doubt as to otherwise. Clearly, in this case, the jury felt that there was some reasonable doubt as to whether or not the mom did it.

Excluding bias, which there shouldn't be, or the prosecution doing shitty evidence gathering (which I hope wasn't the case), and possible retrials in the future: we kind of have to accept that she's innocent. I know it sucks and a lot of people don't feel like it was the right verdict, but we have a (fairly) acceptable justice system that aims to nullify a lot of possible issues to get to the right ruling. If you are wondering about the OJ trials, the difference is standards of evidence. The original trial had a higher standard of permissible evidence than the civil trial.

As for the charges, she lied about a few things like the nanny's name and stuff.

Frankly, I never followed the trial. Never cared. I know what happened and I think it's shit. However! Horrible things happen daily, and I know full well justice won't be delivered for a fair bit of these events.

At the mo' I'm more concerned about an outraged, "upstanding vigilante" breaking the woman's door down and getting "social justice." Because while I agree something needs to be done about this, seeing someone stoop down to another potential murderer's level just doubles the tragedy. Especially if the woman truly is innocent by some chance. My two cents.

I know, at the time I was just venting. It is odd (In my opinion anyway) that her kid went "missing" and didn't report anything for 31 days and instead party'd. I think that's what struck me the most.

I don't disagree, that law about making it a felony to not report your kid missing is getting traction on the internet.

I dunno though, I wouldn't doubt she has some serious issues.
