PostSubject: Overkill on Tor.   Overkill on Tor. EmptyFri Oct 21, 2011 4:20 am

I..*think* i've got my next build for TOR. These all gotta be approved by at least 3 more technologically inclined friends before I consider it a viable deal.

My upgrades are:

Case (Gotta get a bigger'n): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119197

GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121431

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131644 <--isnt this the one Valkus said was the one he used?

All in all, hopefully I'm not screwing the pooch. Hopefully this is all I need.

I just meant you can figure out all of the specs of your computer and compare it to that.

If I'm not mistaken the two biggest things to look for:
- If your CPU is 2.0 ghz or faster
- If your computer's graphics card is better than the minimum suggested

It sounds like your graphics card won't work with it (thus your computer).

Either buy a better graphics card (assuming your's isn't an integrated chip, which I think it might be) or a new computer.

Or a 360.

Between 60-100 bucks for the 9500, but if that is an integrated chip, yo'd have to fork out more for a new motherboard and all that.

Integrated chips are annoying as fuck. Since laptops are mostly aimed at people who just need to use word and the internet, they put in really sucky chips that can handle some games.

Anyway, I don't think I'd suggest going crazy and doing all of that, unless you know someone who really knows their stuff and can explain all the stuff you need plus which companies make good products and such.

Cheapest PS3 you can get in a store is $200 (refurbished).
Cheapest old 360 you can get in a store is $140 (refurbished).
Cheapest new 360 you can get in a store is $180 (new).

The old 360 is likely one that was traded in after it red ringed, and the chances of getting another red ring increases dramatically.

The new ones can't red ring though.

Core I7 SB is awesome. I have the same one. However i heard they are busy making even faster cores which will come out in this year. Which will be an I7 with a 22nm die shrink. The codename is Ivy Bridge.

To quote wikipedia
Quote :
Expected Ivy Bridge feature improvements from Sandy Bridge:
Intel's tri-gate transistor technology, which will significantly reduce power consumption.[11]
PCI Express 3.0 support.[12]
Next Generation Intel HD Graphics with DirectX 11, OpenGL 3.1, and OpenCL 1.1 support. The built-in GPU is believed to have up to 16 execution units (EUs), compared to Sandy Bridge's maximum of 12.[13]
Next Generation Intel Quick Sync Video.[13]
The new random number generator and the RdRand instruction,[14] which is codenamed Bull Mountain.[15]

Ivy Bridge
Intel's performance targets (compared to Sandy Bridge):[18]
20% increase in CPU performance.
Up to 60% increase in integrated graphics performance.[19]

Heard it recently. Your choice mate... Razz

Eh. I'll be happy with Sandy.

My stuff's shipping. I've got like 4 tracking things, sadly. Sad Gonna be fun to juggle those.

it's all under "Guaranteed 3 days" by UPS. Except for my future speakers..Which are standard ground, for some reason.
